DR.GASTÓN MERCEVILLE "Reverse Psychology Studies"
Reverse psychology, which have to do with the art of convincing someone to do the opposite of what is being asked, why can be considered part of a strategy and technique also used by behaviorism, which focuses in modeling and transformation of the behaviors of the subjects.
I have a story that always brings a smile when the story. When I was very small, about 5 years, there was a season in which he had to take medicine every night before bed. I remember it was an effervescent tablet dissolved in water and it tasted bad, almost like sulfur.
At first I resisted a lot to catch me and was a drama for my parents to get me to drink every night. Until my uncle started a game psychologist. He told me and made me believe that medicine was actually a magical syrup turned me invisible and as I was taking the effects would be more powerful. But the decision to drink it or not up to me.
And so, before long, my uncle got a kid of 5 years before kicking and crying every time you had to take your medicine became child who dined at full speed to save time and take his potion ASAP magic.
While my uncle used the imagination of a child to achieve his purpose, his strategy has much to do with one of the most useful tools but least known of influence: reverse psychology.
Nuria Martin:
Reverse psychology is a way to attract attention, used most often with children to get the opposite of what is said in words, today is used in many aspects of our lives and most of the time without realizing it, but today I will take the field that interests us, seduction.
Both in advertising and in methods of self-help or self-improvement, it is a technique which although not part of traditional psychology (it is born of the needs of the marketing branch), works in many important personal moments if we use it in the way appropriate.
It is to address our fears saying the exact opposite of what we want, so for example, who is afraid of speaking in public, sometimes more successful say to yourself: "I'm not going to do it," "I'll nervous "," I will stay blank ", etc., just because these thoughts cause a survival instinct they do bring out from within to overcome the instinct we all have and that sometimes remains hidden until you can not wake up and this case of reverse psychology, used to do just that.
Nuria Martin:
We advise against this technique with children as undermining the authority of parents causing the children to do the opposite of what is asked. A good alternative is the "art of imitation", offering a modeling rather than actively seek the opposition of the child.
However, there is a psychotherapy technique known as paradoxical intervention, which is strongly related to reverse psychology. On clients that offer much resistance to change, the fact the pressure off them can benefit. You can also allow them to see things from a new perspective. Say "this is stronger than you, not everyone can thereby" can make use of other emotions, such as pride, to give them strength.
